Itinerary*

The itinerary is flexible and will adapt to the weather conditions at this time of year.

Day 1 March 13th - Pick in Reykjavik between 10:00 - 10:30am before departing for the Golden Circle (Thingvellir NP, Geysir and Gullfoss). Overnight Gulfoss Hotel

Day 2 & 3 Leaving Gulfoss after breakfast, we will make our way to Dyrholaey (overnite Hotel Dyrholaey) stopping at several sites along the way including some lesser known spots and the better known Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls - before continuing along the coast to Dyrholaey, Vik and Reynisfjara beach to focus on it's sea stacks, seascapes and cliff top views.

Day 4 and 5. Further east the landscape changes yet again. We'll base ourselves at the Foss Hotel Glacier Lagoon beneath Iceland's biggest mountain and the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull and nearby Jokalsarlon Lagoon. The lagoon lies at the base of the glacier where ice calves off, then makes it's way down river and out to sea before being washed ashore, this provides a stunning contrast to the volcanic black sand beach. The days are getting longer quicker at this time of year but our chances of getting suitable conditions for observing and photographing the Northern Lights ( Aurora Borealis) are good. You'll also photograph some dramatic features within the Skaftafell National Park where a optional Glacier Ice walk may be available subject to favorable weather.

Day 6 We'll leave the hotel to explore the dramatic scenery further east basing ourselves for a night in the fishing town of Hofn to photograph majestic mountains around Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn.

Day 7 will provide mixed opportunity of classic landscapes and vistas as we make our way back towards Reykjavik where you will spend your final night of the trip or be dropped in Keflavik closer to the airport. The trip will conclude upon our return

Northern Lights ( Aurora Borealis ) are visible at this time of year and we will be on the lookout when conditions are favourable ( Aurora alert and clear skies ).

The itinerary above is flexible and not all the locations we visit are listed above. Things change as weather is fickle in this part of the world. Accommodation venues are subject to availability and can be altered to others of a similar standard.

There are several options for accommodation before and after the trip, these include convenient Hlemmur Square Hotel and Hostel ( where I stay ), Center Hotel ( 3 of them ), Baron Foss Hotel and a range of convenient guesthouses. You will be picked up and dropped off from your preferred city centre hotel.

Airport transfers: Reykjavik is about 45 mins from Keflavik Airport. The Flybus and Flybus+ offer a transfer service to and from the centre bus terminus and most accommodation in the city ( Flybus+). This can be pre booked at https://www.re.is/flybus/. There are buses leaving every few minutes after a fight arrives.

Not included

Evening meals or restaurant lunches these will be taken when convenient to our photography sessions

In November the days are a little shorter, streets are quieter and there's more time to look, savour and let the land in the lagoon permeate your senses. Every building, lane and waterway has a photo opportunity waiting and I’ve carefully hand picked a variety of locations that will do this wonderful part of the world justice.

Directions – getting to the hotel from the airport.

From Treviso airport: Take the ATVO bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma. Take the No 1 or No 2 Vaporetto water bus down the Grand Canal for about 1/2 hour. The Vaporetto stop to get off is San Marco Vallaresso on the left bank. Alight here and walk immediatly up Calle Vallaresso for 100m. You’ll come to a fork, go to the left momentarily then immediately go right up Calle Frezzaria for 100m, then turn right onto Calle Tron which becomes Campo San Gallo once over a small canal. The Hotel San Gallo is on your right. All up it’s a 5 minute walk from the Vaporetto stop.

From Marco Polo airport: There are four possibilities (1) private watertaxi from the airport to as close as possible to your hotel. These can be booked at the two desks in the Arrivals Hall and will cost c.€100 -129 for the whole launch, not per passenger. (2) a shared water taxi for c. €25 per person (see Venice link shared transfer) (3) Alilaguna ferry from the airport to a number of places in Venice (see www.alilaguna.it) for €15 per adult. (4) ATVO coach or ACTV bus or land taxi to Piazzale Roma. Same directions apply as above from here to the Hotel.

I will send a map showing the short walking route from the San Marco Vallaresso stop to the hotel once booked. If your not confident with directions, I may be able to meet you at the Piazzale Roma and guide you. Don’t panic, everyone gets lost in Venice at some point.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

Highlights include Glencoe Lochans, the River Coupall, Buachaille Etive Mòr, Rannoch Moor and Lochan na h-Achlaise, Castle Stalker and Loch Achtriochtan.

Trip summary

Glencoe constantly conjures up visions of swirling mist and mountain peaks caught in the clouds. Iconic scenes of tumbling Highland rivers and burns cascading over rocks and plunging into deep peaty coloured pools are wonderful subjects to experiment with allowing you to create a variety of interesting compositions.

It's a place that quintessentially wraps up all that is "Highland" and captures the imagination of photographer's the world over. On this Highland workshop you’ll really get a chance to immerse yourself in some truly spectacular Scottish landscapes, from the Majestic Buachaille Etive Mòr guarding the entrances to both Glen Etive and Glencoe to the wild open Rannoch Moor and the distant Black Mount.

The best way to capture and experience Glencoe is to leave the car behind and wander its paths and trails. Some meander deep into the Glen where the River Coe navigates its wild course around giant glacial boulders, plunging down into narrow gorges disappearing into blackness. Others paths traverse the northern side along the old military road with stunning vistas of the Glen’s three sisters and River Coe and small Highland lochans.

Other locations include a trip down the shores of Loch Linnhe to Castle Stalker for a dusk session. Not as well know as its famous neighbour, beautiful Glen Etive and the River Etive feel remoter and quieter but still full of drama.

The rivers, waterfalls, mountains and history of this corner of Scotland will provide you with plenty of dramatic and romantic winter imagery to complement your portfolio. It’s one of the most evocative parts of Scotland and a workshop and location that has to be experienced.

This workshop format will also allow us to take some time in the evening to edit and review our images from the days sessions.

Itinerary*

The itinerary is flexible and will adapt to the weather conditions at this time of year.

Day 1 March 5th - Pick in Reykjavik between 09:30 - 10:00am before departing for the Golden Circle (Thingvellir NP, Geysir and Gullfoss). Overnight Gulfoss Hotel

Day 2 & 3 Leaving Gulfoss after breakfast and a dawn shoot at the mighty waterfall, we will make our way to Dyrholaey and the Hotel Dyrholaey, stopping at several locations along the way including some lesser known ones and the better known Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls - before continuing along the coast to Vik and Reynisfjara beach to focus on it's sea stacks, seascapes and cliff top views.

Day 4 and 5. Further east the landscape changes yet again. We'll base ourselves at the Foss Hotel close to the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull and nearby Jokalsarlon Lagoon. The lagoon lies at the base of the glacier where glacial ice calves off, making it's way down river and out to sea before being washed ashore, this provides a stunning contrast to the volcanic black sand beach and makes for some unique and wonderful images.

The days are getting longer quicker at this time of year but our chances of getting suitable conditions for observing and photographing the Northern Lights ( Aurora Borealis) are good. You'll also photograph some dramatic features around the Skaftafell National Park where a optional ice cave photography session with Glacier Adventures may be available subject to favorable weather.

Day 6 We'll leave the Foss Hotel to explore the dramatic scenery further east basing ourselves for a night in the fishing town of Hofn for 2 nights to photograph majestic mountains around Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn.

Day 7 will provide a day of mixed opportunity of classic landscapes and vistas east of Eystrahorn

Day 8 Our final day will allow time we make our way back towards Reykjavik where our trip will come to and end. 16:30pm on the 12th of March in Reykjavik .
