Location Cres: It's Autumn down on the Adriatic coast and most of the tourists have gone but the clear cobalt blue sea is still warm enough for a swim at this time of year. The island of Cres' hidden bays and rocky beaches litter the craggy coastline, viewed from high on a rocky hill they dare to be explored. You could easily lose yourself for an afternoon and well into the evening light, camera in hand waiting for that magic glow.
In the Tramuntana region of northern Cres, pronounced "sress", hill top villages stand out like beacons with pastel red tiled roofs. The vistas out to dozens of neighbouring islands in the Kvaerner Gulf create stunning seascapes as ships and yachts sail through the channels like cloud streaks in a deep blue sky. Just like Scotland, Croatia has hundreds of islands scattered down it's coast all with their own special appeal and magical light.
Cres town, our base for a few nights has a collection of crumpled pastel houses that surround the edge of the harbour, with a long history including Venetian and Italian rule. The towns, laneways, small fishing boats bobbing in the harbour and worn smooth walkways all create an air of timelessness and charm .
Location Plitvice: Back on the mainland, the contrasting paths and rustic walkways of Plitvice meander and twist through blue/green pools with waterfalls and cascades appearing around every corner. The Unesco World Heritage Plitvice Lakes are a series of around 16 lakes, waterfalls and cascades that run for around 8kms between Mala Kapela Mountain and Pljesevica Mountain, around 3 hours south of Zagreb. You can wander for hours capturing flowing cascades and plunging waterfalls set in a lush environment of trees and soaring cliffs. Location Motovun: Perched on a 277m high hill the small medieval town of Motovun commands fantastic views of the valley below with the jumbled hillside villas also making wonderful photographic subjects. Located in the region of Istria, Motovun is famous for it's truffles, hill top location and yearly film festival. Located a short 1 hour drive after coming off the ferry from Cres.Three great but very different Croatian locations to explore, experience and photograph for yourself in Autumn 2012.

Getting there: Note - UK earlybird flights Gatwick to Zagreb are currently (Jan 2012) around £100.00 return with Easyjet Zagreb is about a 2 hour flight from London Gatwick with Easy Jet. Croatia Airlines also fly from most European centres. Budget carrier Wizz Air also operate from some countries and flys to Dubrovnik from London's Luton airport.
Zagreb airport is a 20 to 30 minute bus/ taxi ride to the centre of town. The Croation currency is the Kuna and is easily obtainable. Croatia is in my opinion more affordable than western european countires such as Italy and Greece and offers good vaue for money at most restaurants, cafes and bar. It won't be long before Croatia becomes a full member of the EU so visit now and experience it as it used to be! Not included Does not include flights to Zagreb or airport transfers. Evening meals. Please ensure you have adequate travel/ medical insurance. Croatia is not as yet a full member of the European Union, some visas may be required depending where you are travelling from (not required by UK citizens).
